After days of uncertainty, Funke Akindele finally admits the reports are true: her one year marriage to Kehinde Almaroof has packed up.
Speaking on behalf of the actress fondly called Jenifa, her publicist and sister, Ayo Ola-Mohammed issued a terse release last night, confirming the separation, and requesting prayers and support.

Spread mostly through Blackberry Messenger and other short messaging platforms, the statement reads:On behalf of our client, star actress, Funke Akindele, we want to formally inform you that after due consultation and consideration, she’s now separated from Mr. Kehinde Oloyede as his wife. She hereby urges her fans and all concerned to pray and wish her the best as she moves on in her career Kindly note that this is the first and only official statement from Funke Akindele on the matter and will be glad if her wish is respected.’
With this release comes an end to days of speculation on the status of the much celebrated and talked about marriage between the star actress and politician Kehinde Almaroof Oloyede.
Earlier in the week, there had been reports of Kehinde posting on his Facebook page a message announcing the marriage had come to an end allegedly to ‘irreconcilable difference’.
Almoroof allegedly wrote: ‘It’s with heavy heart that am announcing the separation of me nd ma wife Mrs olufunke akindele,we’ve both agreed to go our separate ways coz of irreconcilable differences.we still best of friends nd we 4ever remain gud friends. Am doing just fine, getting along without u, don’t need u anymore in ma lif. U d greatest mistake av made in recent time’.
The post and the account were later deleted allegedly due to pressure from family and friends of the couple. Funke later denied reports and insisted that her marriage was intact, even threatening to sue in the case of further reports, an action believed to have been a calculated move to distract the media and of course the fans from probing further.
Suddenly, it all seems the actress has come to a realization that as much as she owes herself to own up to the realities of life, she also owes her much beloved fans the truth instead of painting a false picture of what is not.
Although one can not explain exactly what went wrong, many had speculated right from the beginning that the marriage seemed like it was destined to fail because of all the controversies that surrounded it. From Kehinde’s pre-Funke women (he had been married at least once and there’s a second woman in the picture), to alleged post-Funke children and of course alleged strings of affairs, many opine this was surely going to hit the rocks sooner or later.
The couple did not have a child together even though there had been strong rumours of a Funke Akindele pregnancy.
It may not all be over for good though – as one insider told NET ‘you can’t rule out reconciliation 100%. Anything can happen.’
